Charlotte's Web - The Movie
November 2nd 2006 08:19
Well, the latest in the long line of children's books being adapted for film is 'Charlotte's Web'. I noted a poster for it the other day when I was at the cinemas. Of course, the book was made into an animated film back in the 70s, the likes of which I watched very many times as a child and I hold quite fondly in my heart.
The poster implies that they seek to be very faithful to the book, and I guess it would be hard to not be faithful to 'Charlotte's Web'... the story works so wonderfully and there really isn't anything to mess with.
At the moment the new film is set to be released in late December, just in time for the Christmas holidays. Dakota Fanning is the star... I'm trying not to let that put me off, as they've assembled a vast range of talent for the voices of the animals.. Julia Roberts (urgh), Oprah Winfrey (double-urgh), Steve Buscemi (yay!), Kathy Bates (yay!), John Cleese (yay!), Reba McIntire (boo!), Robert Redford (yay!) and Thomas Hayden Church (yay!)
Apparently this film was originally due to be released in June but the powers that be didn't want to be in competition with 'Nacho Libre' or 'Barnyard' (I don't know why they were worried...)
Anyway, if you have kids then this would be a great film to take them to. Mind you, I don't want any blame if the film turns out to be a shocker... but I'm pretty sure it won't be. It's impossible to stuff up. I hope.
