New Books: Gideon The Cutpurse
January 8th 2007 05:03
Gideon the Cutpurse is a new children's science-fiction novel, 'being the first part in a trilogy' (the Gideon trilogy), that involves time travel and 17th century thievery.
The book follows two protagonists, Peter Schock and Kate Dyer, who are accidentally flung back to 1763 by some kind of anti-gravity machine. Gideon, a 17th century rogue and 'cutpurse' (someone who steals from people's pockets), finds himself swept into an adventure with the two time-travelling children... a tale of intrigue and danger in King George's england ensues.
The book has been praised lavishly for it's realistic depiction of it's historical setting and has been long-listed for the 2007 Carnegie Medal - one of the most prestigous prizes for 'children's' books.
Anyway, I saw a brochure for this book today and I had a quick read about it and I thought it might be worth mentioning on here as I thought it sounded interesting.
Unfortunately, the official website (whilst initially looking fairly impressive) is kind of incomplete. Which is a shame. Here it is anyway though - Gideon the Cutpurse
