Paradise Kiss is also another manga by Yazawa Ai. This anime is also adapted into anime.
Genre: Romance
Synopsis: To live up to the demands of an overbearing mother, high school senior Yukari has always been a student first and person later. But then she is spotted by a group of fashion school students who decide she's the perfect model for their new clothes line. Soon she is skipping school to hang out with a groups of (crazy) kids working hard to make their dreams a reality and before too long Yukari decides to find out if she can do the same.

I was interested to read this manga at first because the theme is about fashion. This is the theme that caught my attention (this manga was the first Yazawa Ai manga that I read) so I was thinking that you might be seeing something that you always see in the fashion magazine. Apparently, I was fooled with theme because I can only say that this manga focused more on romance rather than the theme itself. Even though it's not a hard romance that you always imagined, but I was still a little bit pissed because I never thought that the romance overwhelmed the theme.
As the storyline concerned, the drama in this manga is a lot more intense compared with Gokinjo Monogatari. In case you're wondering why I'm relating Gokinjo Monogatari and Paradise Kiss, Paradise Kiss can be considered as the continuation of Gokinjo Monogatari. If you have no idea about Gokinjo Monogatari, you can read my review here. Okay, I'll stop talking about Gokinjo Monogatari now. Honestly, I really hate Yukari's attitude because she doesn't know what is the best for her. I know it's normal if you don't know what do you want to do for your life but her attitude really annoys me most of the time. Putting her attitude aside, the drama presented in this manga is something that I find totally usual stuff like your parents will always tell you to do or be something that they think it's the best for you even though it's actually not the best thing for you. This is the main point that Yazawa Ai wants to point out because this is the one of the Japanese culture. I think it doesn't just happened in Japan, but overall this is the Eastern culture contradict with Western culture. Well, Yazawa Ai really points out her opinion clearly which I agree with her.
As for the artwork, like I said, if you're familiar with her other manga such as NANA and Gokinjo Monogatari, then it doesn't make any difference with Paradise Kiss artwork. Her artwork looks childish but I think it's unique because the drawing is not sketchy like the typical shoujo manga.
Overall, Paradise Kiss is a lot more well known than Gokinjo Monogatari, but I would still prefer Gokinjo Monogatari over Paradise Kiss because Gokinjo Monogatari focused more on career, dreams and fashion compared to Paradise Kiss. Paradise Kiss is a lot more suitable for people who loves romance, twisted feelings and intense drama.
