Some Selected Reviews

Bit busy at the moment with other projects, but in the meantime here are some older reviews and articles that might be worth checking out if you've only found this blog recently.
The Snapper - Roddy Doyle's second novel is a wonderful and realistically funny story of unwed pregnancy in suburban Ireland.
Easy Riders, Raging Bulls - possibly the best book ever written about film. This in-depth history of the new wave of 70s film-making in Hollywood is extremely well-researched and full of juicy and scandalous anecdotes.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - Mark Haddon's award-winning autistic coming-of-age story is one of my favourite books. Very funny, and very well-written.
Player Piano - a review of the first book by cult sci-fi author Kurt Vonnegut.
The Catcher in the Rye - review and impressions on the classic J. D. Salinger novel.
Automated Alice - bizarre sequel to Lewis Carroll's Alice stories sees Alice go steampunk.
Brando - review of a wonderful guide book to Brando's various film roles.
Loaded - an edgy ground-breaking novel of marginalised cultures and identity crisis in suburban Melbourne, told from the fuck-you point-of-a-view of a young greek, gay man. Also made into the film 'Head On', starring Alex Dimitriades.
Blast From the Past - British hippy has affair with American soldier. By Ben Elton, so laughs and thrills ensue.
The Assassin's Apprentice - one of the best fantasy books I've ever read. Brilliant.
With Nails - the delightfully bitchy memoirs of Richard E. Grant.
Marching Powder - incredible true story of cocaine and backpack tours in a one-of-a-kind gaol in Bolivia.
