The Chain of Charms

'The Chain of Charms' is a new children's adventure series written by rising Australin fantasy author Kate Forsyth. They're fairly brief novels but the good news is that if you get into them you won't have to wait long for the next installment... all six books are being published in the space of a year.
'The Chain of Charms' concerns a chain of charms (yep!), with each book named after and featuring a singular charm from the titular chain. The books are set 'amongst the gypsies of Cromwell's England'. Cromwell's time is a fascinating period of English history, where the British Royal family were pulled from power via civil war and a puratannical (and tyrannical) Republic was installed in it's stead. The gypsies were singled out for persecution, and the premise of these books is that the seperation of a chain of charms once worn by a fabled gypsy queen is to be blamed for the ill fortune visited upon the gypsies. Our heroes, Emilia and Luka, are the last remaining un-gaoled members of the Finch family. In order to save their tribe they must find and reunite each of the charms... but it isn't going to be easy!
These books promise accurate historical details and high adventure, and the website for the books has placed a heavy emphasis on teacher's using or promoting them for their students. The first book was released in September just gone, and the second book came out just last month. The schedule for the series runs as thus...
'The Silver Horse' - November 2006
'The Herb of Grace' - March 2007
'The Cat's Eye Shell' - May 2007
'The Lightning Bolt' - July 2007
'The Butterfly in Amber' - September 2007
